Reflections from learner in Vienna

As part of the VOICES project, Shakir, a learner attending a basic education course, conducted his first-ever interview with a contemporary witness. Her memories of the war in Hungary resonated with his own experiences of war and displacement in Somalia. Through the workshop, he learned how to conduct interviews, work as part of a team and gain new perspectives from the life stories of older generations. His experience shows how historical remembrance, personal stories and basic education can come together to foster learning and mutual understanding across generations.
